FAO of our resident guests: Our restaurants currently have limited capacity, and do get full, so we strongly recommend booking your dining times with us prior to your arrival. Due to current social distancing rules we can accommodate all of our resident guests across HRiSHi and Gilpin Spice, but to achieve this we need to book both restaurants evenly every night, so we are asking our guests to dine in each of the two restaurants for every two nights staying with us.
With a fascinating history as a centre of the spice trade, Cumbrian cuisine has a rich heritage, and local specialities have long included exotic spices with favourites such as Cumberland sausage, potted shrimps, Grasmere gingerbread, and of course, sticky toffee pudding.
At Gilpin Hotel there are two restaurants celebrating this tradition –
EXECUTIVE CHEF HRISHIKESH DESAI

Hrishikesh joined Gilpin in March 2015, moving to the Lake District with his wife and daughter. Winner of Alex Polizzi’s BBC2 Chefs on Trial, his background includes Institute Paul Bocuse, Les Maison de Bricourt, Le Chateau de Bagnol, French Laundry, and Lucknam Park. He is one of a few chefs to have won both the Roux Scholarship and the Craft Guild of Chef’s National Chef of the Year, unique in winning these in consecutive years.
