SIR RICHARD II NUKES
PATHOGENS AT GILPIN

Yes, from this week we are nuking all pathogens using UV radiation, with the help of Richard II!
In all seriousness, we wanted to get in touch to reassure our guests that we are doing everything we can to keep our guests and our team safe. We are very lucky to have on loan an amazing piece of kit, with huge thanks to Charlie Pillans, owner of Q Medical Technologies.
The kit, THOR™, destroys very infectious pathogens over a rapid disinfection cycle, and is normally only used in the most hi-tech operating theatres – but this particular beauty is reigning mass destruction on all pathogens in our public areas at night.
This happens to coincide with Richard (32 years at Gilpin and counting!), standing down from night management, so we’d like to introduce THOR™ who takes over on night duty, ably ‘assisted’ by humans Adam and Ion (much more sensible than the reprobates in the picture).[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”4339″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]

On our suggestion, a large proportion of our team volunteered to have flu vaccinations, which we organised on-site. This means that if one of us has a fever or flu like symptoms, we know to take it very seriously.
All of our team have been given personal thermometers to carry with them (both at home and at work). We ask everyone to self-check twice daily, and to immediately talk to our management team if they display any signs of fever. Procedures are in place for self-quarantine, and everyone knows the importance of this.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1582996491387{padding-top: 30px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;background-color: #cecece !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]CHECK-OUT IS KING
As many of you know, we have an amazing head housekeeper in Laura, who has reigned supreme in housekeeping for nine years, and at the Lake House the inimitable Sorina rules the roost. Laura and Sorina and their teams already spend an average of 90 minutes per room, which is far above the average industry standard. We always try to ensure that our bedrooms are the cleanest, but from now on, even further efforts will be dedicated to rooms that are check outs, to ensure absolute sanitisation for new guests that are checking in. Additional procedures include:
- Disinfection treatment of all switches, remote controls, door and cupboard handles, telephones etc.
- Disinfection treatment of all surfaces.
- Disinfection ‘fogging’ of bathrooms.
Please note these areas are of course always cleaned, but we are taking the added precaution of disinfecting them.
For each check in, there will be an assurance, signed by the management team, that all of the appropriate cleaning procedures have been completed, checked and signed off.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1582996508455{padding-top: 30px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;background-color: #eaeaea !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]THE TEAM & PUBLIC AREAS
Laura and her team already carry out a thorough daily cleaning of the hotel, as do Tom and his team at the Lake House. In addition to this:
- Richard II to carry out a nightly cycle to destroy all pathogens in the public areas of Gilpin Hotel at night (all armchairs, tables, curtains, cushions etc). If anyone (staff or guests) at the Lake House falls ill, Richard II will be despatched to carry out a cycle there.
- Disinfection ‘fogging’ of the kitchens after service each evening (in addition to the normal cleaning procedures).
- All tableware and glassware to be sterilised by machine washing processes for every new sitting (as always).
- The chauffeur car, hotel buggies and all public door handles and public toilets to be treated to destroy pathogens.
- All staff are required to thoroughly wash their hands hourly for a minimum of 20 seconds.
- All staff entering F&B prep areas must clean their hands with alcohol gel.
- Menus and guest information will be online, accessible via guests’ own devices, thus avoiding contact through shared menus, wine list, bar lists, room service etc. We will of course have a few printed menus in case they are needed, but will keep usage to an absolute minimum. (Please note individual devices are known as ‘veritable reservoirs of pathogens’ – so please do clean your own mobile devices.)
- Sadly, we will discontinue handshakes, hugs and kisses as greetings. A very sad day, but absolutely necessary for the time being.
We hope and pray that this threat is defeated and that everyone remains safe. We are trying to do everything that we possibly can to make Gilpin one of the safest places to stay, with the help of our amazing team, and Richard Il.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Of course there is more that we can do, and we are taking some other important measures which include those listed below:[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1582996154745{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1582995489451{margin-top: 20px !important;}”]
