A FAMILY BUSINESS

THE CUNLIFFE FAMILY AT GILPIN

So, a little bit about us… Six generations of Cunliffe’s have been associated with the two estates.

You’ll see in the above pic, we are a family-run hotel. John and Christine on the left (who started Gilpin in 1988) both worked tirelessly at Gilpin until their sad passing in 2020 and 2022 respectively. Their eldest son Barney, with daughter Xiá and wife Zoë, run Gilpin on a day-to-day basis – although Xiá’s only 15 so has to fit in school as well… The younger son Ben, of Ben Cunliffe Architects, is involved with doing all the architecture of Gilpin Hotel & Lake House

Gilpin Hotel & Lake House is an elegant, relaxing haven of luxury which offers the ultimate wellness experiences. Awarded the coveted 5 Red Star Accreditation by The AA in 2021, which “recognises the top level of excellence in hospitality awarded to a hotel by the organisation”, guests can expect warm smiles, stunning culinary experiences, exquisite décor, real fires and friendly, unpretentious service.

And we couldn’t do it without you – our guests – who visit us for many reasons, often milestones such as birthdays, mini moons, honeymoons, anniversaries, celebrations, rest and recovery, spending time with dear friends, love, or simply to chill out. We are privileged to share so many special moments with you and are very proud to set the scene as beautifully as we can so that you can truly enjoy the time together without worry, and create priceless memories.

As with many things at Gilpin, the #loveandlaughter strapline came from comments from guests, a variety of whom said to us (independently of each other), that when they think of Gilpin they think of love and laughter – theirs, and ours, To us that is a huge compliment, and so we adopted it as a kind of a motto.

WE HOPE TO SEE & WELCOME YOU TO GILPIN SOON,

All the family and team.
