A FAMILY BUSINESS

THE CUNLIFFE FAMILY AT GILPIN
So, a little bit about us… You’ll see in the above pic that there are seven of us involved in the business – John and Christine on the left, who started Gilpin in 1988, their older son Barney and his wife Zoë, who run Gilpin on a day to day basis, with daughter Xiá, and their younger son Ben and his wife Rachel, of Ben Cunliffe Architects who do all our architecture (and a lot of other architecture as well!).
Gilpin is a friendly, family-run hotel with a long-standing team. When guests return they know the family and team, and we know them – everyone who walks through the door is made to feel welcome, valued and ‘at home’. Of course we strive to have the best interiors, cuisine, service, innovative rooms etc., but at the end of the day the thing that rules supreme is the people. Our team are an amazing bunch, and we value every one of them, with all of their foibles and fabulousness. We couldn’t do any of it without them.
And we couldn’t do it without you – our guests – who visit us for many reasons, often milestones such as birthdays, mini moons, honeymoons, anniversaries, celebrations, rest and recovery, spending time with dear friends, love, or simply to chill out. We are privileged to share so many special moments with you, and are very proud to set the scene as beautifully as we can, so that you can truly enjoy the time together without worry, and create priceless memories.
As with many things at Gilpin, the #love&laughter strapline came from comments from guests, a variety of whom said to us (independently of each other), that when they think of Gilpin they think of love and laughter – theirs, and ours, To us that is a huge compliment, and so we adopted it as a kind of a motto.
We hope to see welcome you to Gilpin soon,
All the family and team.
