Karen Baybutt
Financial Controller / HR Manager

HR & Recruitment Officer

HR may be seen as behind the scenes role, but it is a pivotal role that can have a huge impact on our (or any) business. Helping ensure that our team is happy and organised – and recruiting them in the first place – is absolutely crucial to the well-being of Gilpin. We often say that as a hotel we can have the best décor, facilities, food, wine etc., but without our team we have nothing – and we sincerely believe that.

So, the HR & Recruitment Officer at Gilpin, what exactly does that entail? It is a role that encompasses everything from the day-to-day administration of HR, to welcoming new team members to Gilpin, getting to know them and ensuring they have everything they need, to devising and managing creative recruitment campaigns. Whilst the role sits within the accounts team, this is more of a stand-alone role encompassing:

  • Recruitment – from proactive creative social media campaigns to simple reactive job ads
  • Welcoming new team members to Gilpin, ensuring that their accommodation is in perfect condition with a welcome pack to ease them in, introducing them to their teams and getting to know them
  • Actively promote positive staff welfare, employee satisfaction and wellbeing
  • Counselling staff about any problems they may have, either at work or personally
  • Working closely with line managers on managing employee performance
  • Developing employee engagement and retention initiatives
  • Develop and design learning and development strategies
  • Administrative duties, record keeping
  • Develop and design learning and development strategies
  • Developing and updating HR policies, procedures and documents
  • Ensuring best practices
  • Develop and maintain HR information systems and KPIs

There is a lot of detail work, a lot of people ‘work’, a lot of creative work, and a lot of potential. If you’re incredibly organised, empathetic, a pro at multi-tasking and always find the time to organise everyone else’s lives as well as your own, then this could be perfect for you.
