Guests escaping to the Lakes often have two main motivations… relaxation from busy lives or recovery after fell walking. Both are important to our guests and that is why we our spa therapists focus solely on the guests, there are no reservations or heavy paperwork to deal with. In addition to that, you are delivering your expert services to guests in a truly stunning and natural environment – in our beautiful Spa Suites, in our new treatments rooms at Gilpin, and at the stunning Gilpin Lake House Jetty Spa. We take great pride in offering our guests professional treatments in a simply stunning location.

The housekeeping department is a busy hub of activity, so you’ll never be bored with us!

We’re like no other hotel, we have lots of little quirks, personality and luxury in our rooms – just one of the reasons our housekeeping team enjoy working in this area. This department is the heart of Gilpin and in our eyes, the housekeeping team are the true heroes of our hotel.

THE ROLE OF LAKE HOUSE HOUSEKEEPER
Responsible for ensuring that 5 star standards are kept in the hotel rooms, restaurants laundry and guest areas by ensuring all areas of the hotel are kept clean and tidy.

  • Manning the laundry
  • Washing/drying towels & robes
  • Collection of dirty/clean towel/linen from bedrooms
  • Maintaining the laundry’s cleanliness
  • Sorting & bagging up of laundry
  • Some Housekeeping duties if and when required
  • Clean all areas of the hotel to a high standard
  • Maintain clear and efficient communication and coordination with the manager of the department, reception and other departments of the hotel.
  • Ensure that customers requests are untaken in the rooms as directed by the department manager
  • Report any maintenance Issues in rooms and other areas of the hotel and restaurants and regarding equipment to the Manager,
  • Adhere to all safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) practices/procedures

The Lake House team is a busy, friendly team where attention to detail is hugely important; candidates should have extremely high standards, and be friendly, charming, enthusiastic, well-presented, with good manners, and good English.

The standard of rooms at the Lake House is extremely high and the interaction with guests is personal, friendly and professional. THE ROLE OF CONTENT CREATOR
Live and breathe social media? Know your Stories from your Shorts and your TikToks from your Threads? Well, our brand new Content Creator role could be a ‘reel’ good fit for you and your career. As Gilpin’s Content Creator you will craft engaging narratives, captivating visuals and compelling stories that resonate with our wide audience across various digital platforms. Whether it’s penning persuasive blog posts, capturing high quality images and videos or curating eye-catching social media content, your creativity and skills will be the driving force behind building a meaningful connection with our fans and followers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversees the Gilpin Hotel & Lake House’s social media channels (which currently include Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, Twitter & YouTube) and manages communication including posts, messages, comments etc.
  • Takes responsibility for being the brand voice on social media channels, ensuring the Gilpin tone-of-voice at all times.
  • Works with the PR & Marketing Manager on a social media strategy and rolling social media calendar.
  • Captures, creates and edits high quality photography and videography content across Gilpin Hotel & Lake House, from bedroom tours to new dishes from our Michelin starred restaurant, and more.
  • Keeps up-to-date with the latest social media trends and how they could be incorporated into Gilpin Hotel & Lake House’s social media plan.
  • Monitors the success of social media campaigns and growth by regularly assessing analytics e.g. engagement, reach, conversions, website traffic, and adapts and changes as necessary.
  • Assists with the up-keep of other digital channels alongside the Marketing team.
Skills and experience required for the role
  • In-depth understanding of social media, ideally with a minimum of 1 year’s experience in a social media marketing role

Deputy Housekeeping Manager

SALARY OF £28,000 PER YEAR, PLUS PERFORMANCE RELATED BONUS OF UP TO £4,200

This department is at the heart of Gilpin and we believe our housekeeping team are true gems who aim to make the guest stay truly memorable.

THE ROLE OF DEPUTY HOUSEKEEPING MANAGER
To ensure standards within the property and estate are upheld to the highest standard of cleanliness and hygiene. To ensure training is up to date, standard operating procedures are updated and followed, and to set new procedures. You’ll be comfortable and able to assist in other operations within the hotel.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Ensure cleanliness within the hotel is at the utmost high standard at all times.
  • Carry out and support training for team members and ensure reviews of Housekeeping Team members are done regularly.
  • Assist with the recruitment of new Housekeepers, conduct interviews along side the HOD.
  • Review and update current SOP’s, and compose new SOP’s where required or instructed by your HOD.
  • Carry out stock takes of all Housekeeping stockable items monthly, quarterly and annually.
  • Process orders for cleaning stock, linen, towels, ensuring these meet the business demand
  • Conducting quality checks on areas of the property, including the owners’ house, and able to confidently discipline staff should standards set not be met.
  • Working closely with the HOD to bring in new “Love and Laughter” ideas and implementing them within your department in the hotel.
  • Able to assist with Breakfast Service, Check-out and Check-in’s should the Duty Manager on shift be unavailable.
  • Organise a daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedule for the property and ensure that this is completed.
  • Submit maintenance issues for the hotel and follow them through until the issue has been sorted and ensuring the issue has been solved to a satisfactory level.
  • Able to manage a small team and delegate tasks within the team.
  • Organises regular deep cleaning to ensure the house is immaculate.
  • Researches and presents new ideas.
  • Looks into our suppliers to ensure we are constantly getting the best deal with products, and always using the best quality cleaning supplies.

THE ROLE OF EXPERIENCED HOUSEKEEPER
Our staff at the Gilpin work as a team and in this role the ideal candidate

  • Cleans all the public areas of the hotel, restaurant areas, guest toilets, stairs and corridors.
  • Cleans the guest bedrooms and bathrooms, makes beds to the required standard.
  • Replenishes the rooms with tea, coffee and accessories etc and tops up shower gel, soap, shower accessories etc.
  • Maintains the laundry, washing, drying and folding of towels and robes.
  • Keeps the housekeeping area and the hotel laundry clean and tidy.
  • Undertakes regular turndown shifts.
  • Cleans communal staff areas, in particular the staff canteen area and toilets – replenishes soaps, toilet rolls, mopping the floor etc.
  • Takes responsibility for maintaining the Hotel staff buggies, keeping them clean and well stocked.
  • Reports any maintenance issues or damage to the Head Housekeeper in a timely manner, escalating to the Estates Team as required.
  • Aids reception with any guest requests that fall within the housekeeping ability to provide.
  • Reads the standard operating procedures and complies with the expected hotel standards.

Skills and Experience Required for the Role

  • Previous experience in a similar level of establishment is preferred.
  • Previous guest facing experience is essential.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to effectively collaborate with the FOH team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as per the demands of the business.
  • The ability to speak with guests with a smile, deal with complaints or issues and escalate to the relevant department or manager where appropriate.
  • Good health and a general level of fitness is required as housekeeping is a physical role.
  • Is adaptable to rota changes and is able to respond to urgent issues in a helpful and calm manner, prioritising guest and staff welfare in the first instance.
  • A good level of English is desirable.

THE ROLE OF BREAKFAST CHEF
As a breakfast chef you’ll run the breakfast operation, you’ll be responsible for ensuring a smooth breakfast service.

With three very different kitchens on our beautiful sites – we employ staff with a range of culinary skills and qualifications ranging from creative chefs with Michelin Star experience to our much-needed and hard-working kitchen porters. Every staff member is important in helping to create a smooth and incredible dining experience for our guests.

Sous Chef

  • Assists the Executive Head Chef and Senior Kitchen team in the overall management of kitchen operations, including budgeting, staff scheduling, workflow coordination, and ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning of the kitchen.
  • Oversees food preparation and cooking activities, ensures that dishes are prepared to the highest standards of taste, quality, and presentation. Monitors the cooking process, tastes and adjusts seasonings, and ensures consistency in flavours.
  • is confident in presenting food to guests and has the ability to explain dishes in a clear, confident and professional manner.
  • Ensures that all dishes leaving the kitchen meet the established standards of quality, taste, and presentation. Conducts regular inspections of food items, supervises plating techniques, and addresses any quality or consistency issues promptly.
  • Contributes to menu planning and development by providing creative ideas, new dish concepts and improvements. Collaborates with the Executive Head Chef in designing and implementing menu changes, seasonal offerings, and special promotions.
  • Trains, mentors, and motivates kitchen staff, including chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants. Provides guidance on culinary techniques, menu items, and best practices to ensure consistent skill development and professional growth.
  • Oversees inventory control, includes ingredient procurement, stock rotation, and minimising waste. Collaborates with suppliers, monitors ingredient quality and maintains accurate records of inventory levels.
  • Ensures compliance with all health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices. Conducts regular kitchen inspections to maintain a clean, tidy, organised and safe working environment at all times
  • Fosters effective communication and collaboration within the kitchen team and with other departments. Coordinates with other chefs and staff members to ensure seamless operations, efficient service, and guest satisfaction.
  • Assists in monitoring and controlling food costs, portion sizes, and wastage. Implements strategies to optimise ingredient utilisation, minimise expenses, and maximise profitability while maintaining quality standards.
  • Participates in the planning and execution of special events, banquets, and catering functions. Coordinates with the Head Chef to develop customised menus, oversee food preparation and ensures timely service.
  • Is presentable at all times in clean pressed uniform, with long hair tied back. Attention to personal hygiene is also extremely important.

Skills and experience required for the role

  • Culinary qualification or experience in a professional kitchen.
  • Food hygiene qualification is essential.
  • Significant previous experience in a professional kitchen, including experience in a leadership role.
  • Strong culinary skills with expertise in various cooking techniques and cuisines.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to manage kitchen operations effectively.

Gilpin is proud to run a training programme which encourages staff to learn through incremental stages. This in turn then gives the ability to increase wages and benefits as they progress through the Skills Development (SD) levels. Gilpin Academy (as it’s currently known) is a training and development programme which also has the facility to log guest issues as they occur and report maintenance issues to the team so that problems can be resolved quickly and effectively.

  • Monitors and maintains the quality and consistency of dishes throughout the cooking process. Tastes and adjusts seasoning as needed. Reports any quality or consistency issues to the senior chefs for resolution.
  • Assists in the management of ingredient inventory for the assigned section, ensures proper stock rotation, storage, and labelling. Notifies the senior chefs of any shortages or discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Works closely with the culinary team, effectively communicates and collaborates to ensure smooth operations and timely service. Assists colleagues as needed and follows instructions from senior chefs.
  • Contributes ideas and suggestions for new dishes, improvements, or adaptations for the assigned section. Collaborates with the senior chefs in menu planning and development.

We’re looking for talented Chef de Parties to our enthusiastic and talented team.

Being a chef at The Gilpin Hotel & Lake House requires varying degrees of skill and bucket loads of enthusiasm. With three very different kitchens on our beautiful sites – we employ staff with a range of culinary skills and qualifications ranging from creative chefs with Michelin Star experience to our much-needed and hard-working kitchen porters. Every staff member is important in helping to create a smooth and incredible dining experience for our guests.

A Chef De Partie

  • Prepares and cooks dishes according to the recipes, guidelines, and instructions provided by the Chef de Partie.
  • Executes culinary techniques specific to the assigned section, ensuring that the quality, taste, and presentation of the dishes meet the established standards.
  • Assists in the setup and organisation of the assigned section before service, ensures that all necessary ingredients, equipment, and tools are available and in proper working order. Maintains a clean, tidy, organised and safe working environment at all times.
  • Monitors and maintains the quality and consistency of dishes throughout the cooking process. Tastes and adjusts seasoning as needed. Reports any quality or consistency issues to the senior chefs for resolution.
  • Assists in the management of ingredient inventory for the assigned section, ensures proper stock rotation, storage, and labelling. Notifies the senior chefs of any shortages or discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Works closely with the culinary team, effectively communicates and collaborates to ensure smooth operations and timely service. Assists colleagues as needed and follows instructions from senior chefs.
  • Contributes ideas and suggestions for new dishes, improvements, or adaptations for the assigned section. Collaborates with the senior chefs in menu planning and development.
  • Adheres to strict food safety and hygiene standards, including proper handling, storage, and labelling of ingredients. Ensures cleanliness and sanitation in the assigned section, following all health and safety regulations.

Gilpin has two very different restaurants, led by two very different high-profile chefs who work together, sharing the same vision, commitment, passion and values, built on sustainable sourcing with low to no food miles and supporting local producers.

Under the guidance of owner Barney Cunliffe, the property has also introduced its’ strategy for sustainability, which include new procedures and techniques for procurement, scrutinising the supply chain and developing a new Culinary Centre, complete with its own on-site butchery, and working with local farms and specific herds.

THE ROLE OF ESTATES ASSISTANT
Our established and experienced Estates Team hold the key to ensuring our guests have an extraordinary stay and are an integral part of the Gilpin Hotel & Lake House. You will never be bored with the diverse and varied number of tasks undertaken. We have 36 individually styled bedrooms, 21 acres of grounds, gardens and waterways to maintain and hot tubs a plenty, so if you have a keen eye for perfection, are happy to turn your hand to anything, then our site is a never-ending centre of activity.

An Estates Assistant

  • Undertakes simple repairs to infrastructure such as; door handles, door locks, light fixtures, door trims, decking boards, flooring, shower surrounds etc.
  • Repairs small electrical items (not covered under 18th Edition) for instance, changes light bulbs, replaces sockets, changes fuses.
  • Repairs to small plumbing jobs such as taps, washers, plugs, plumbing timers, hot tub systems (simple fixes).
  • Constructs and maintains walls, fences, gates, hedges, paths, drives, patios and surfaces.
  • Cleans and mops the decks around the hot tubs and lodges.
  • Plants, prunes and waters areas around the hotel and lodge gardens, keeping the grounds weed free.
  • Mulches flower beds, borders, pots and planters on wider hotel gardens.
  • Maintains lawns and grassed areas by mowing, strimming, raking, feeding and scarifying.
  • Manages trees; making safe, monitoring and pruning.
  • Responds to maintenance issues in a timely manner and records actions on the system.
  • Ensures stock levels are appropriate and replenished as necessary.
  • Maintains tools & equipment – ensuring that they are in good condition and reports defects promptly.
  • Escalates maintenance issues to the appropriate person when necessary.
  • Assists with projects and planned work on the estate where required.
  • Takes responsibility for own health and safety and that of others including guests.
  • Takes pride in completing jobs to a consistently high standard.
  • Maintains a clean, tidy, organised and safe working environment at all times.

The Estates team is a busy, friendly team where attention to detail is hugely important; candidates should have extremely high standards, and be friendly, charming, enthusiastic, well-presented, with good manners, and good English.

THE ROLE OF HOTEL RECEPTIONIST
The Front of House team at The Gilpin Hotel & Lake House play an integral part of the Guest Experience, from greeting all guests as they step from their vehicles, to waving them off at the end of their stay – and everything in between to ensure their stay is the most enjoyable and wonderful experience they have ever had in a 5* hotel. No job or request is too small for this team and for this busy group, the teamwork required is undeniable and unique.

A Receptionist

  • Welcomes guests with a smile and is generally the first point of contact.
  • Responsible for keeping the main reception area and the cabin clean and tidy.
  • Ensures that the Gilpin buggies are kept looking presentable and clean as they carry guests around the site.
  • Reads and acknowledges all handovers and guest issues in order to be aware of any issues.
  • Carries a radio at all times to be able to communicate with other teams efficiently.
  • Follows expected radio procedure and is mindful of what is communicated and how.
  • Monitors the reception inbox, replying to all emails with an acknowledgment for arrivals and answering all enquiries in a timely manner, ensuring that the inbox is cleared daily.
  • Answers the main phone politely, with a smile and responds to requests accordingly and in a friendly manner.
  • Communicates with other teams to enquire information is shared quickly and efficiently regarding guests requirements using email, phone or radio.
  • Reports any maintenance issues using the correct procedure and in a timely manner.
  • Monitors check in sheets and contact guests ahead of arrival to answer queries and prepare for arrival.
  • Checks the evening handover sheet to ensure any relevant issues are brought to the team’s attention.
  • Has pride in their appearance,and is dressed in a smartly presented uniform, with long hair tied back or up.
  • Staffs the reception welcome cabin to ensure a warm welcome is extended to all arrivals.

Skills and Experience Required for the Role:

  • Previous experience in a similar level of establishment is preferred.
  • Previous Front of House and guest facing experience is essential
  • Experience with the booking system, Reslynx is essential with ResDiary and Trust Payment experience desirable.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to effectively collaborate with the FOH team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as per the demands of the business.
  • The ability to handle complaints and deal promptly with any issues, using tact, diplomacy and with a smile is required.
  • Good health and a general level of fitness is required as carrying and moving luggage is an essential part of this role.
  • Is adaptable to rota changes and is able to respond to urgent issues in a helpful and calm manner, prioritising guest and staff welfare in the first instance.

Our team is made up of full and part time positions where the team work a combination of weekdays, evenings and weekends. The department covers Reception, Reservations, Concierge and Night Managers (see below for more details on each position).

All aspects of the role are very guest focused. Training can be provided, so specific experience is not always necessary. Conversely, enthusiasm, attention to detail, excellent English and a love of the hotel industry are a huge advantage!
