THE ROLE OF SPA THERAPIST

  • Performs treatments in Spa Space, Jetty Spa, Guests Spa Lodges and Suites,
  • Shows a good knowledge of all spa treatments and the products used in the spa, both ESPA and Pure Lakes.
  • Provides all spa treatments to the highest standards and adheres to the correct treatment protocols. (In house training and ESPA training are provided.)
  • Carries out a full consultation with guests and is knowledgeable about contra-indications.
  • Hosts spa trails and looks after guests when using spa facilities.
  • Upsells treatments to generate revenue for the spa and recommends retail products to guests to help with their individual needs and enhance their experience.
  • Ensures that any special occasions for guests are recognised.
  • Navigates the spa diary and creates spa reservations, responding to emails in a timely manner, sending guests confirmation emails.
  • Assists the Spa Manager with daily running of the spa and reports to the Spa manager or deputy in absence of Spa Manager.
  • Has excellent time management and has a good knowledge of the Gilpin Hotel and Lake House and its practices.
  • Informs the Spa Manager or deputy of any low stock levels of products and consumables etc. which will impact on treatments.
  • Ensures both spas are kept immaculately clean and well presented. Checking that products and consumables are topped up.
  • Cleans spa facilities to correct standards as per departmental guidelines and ensures all spa laundry is taken to be washed. Clean laundry to be brought to the spa and put away neatly.
  • Ensures that all guest issues are reported to the Spa Manager and on Gilpin Academy as soon as possible.
  • Charges treatments and products through EPOS system and PDQ.
  • Achieves retail targets set by management.
  • Unpacks and stores stock on arrival.
  • Ensures a detailed handover is completed each day.
  • Completes the end of day banking.
  • Informs the Spa manager or deputy of any health and safety risks/ issues and adheres to health & safety standards.
  • Helps out other departments when required and if time allows.
  • Maintains a clean, tidy, organised and safe working environment at all times.
  • Is immaculately presented at all times in clean pressed uniform, with long hair tied back. Attention to personal hygiene is also extremely important.

Skills and experience required for the role

  • Previous experience in a similar level of establishment is preferred.
  • Relevant qualifications in treatments that are offered in this particular Spa
  • Face to face experience with guests is essential.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to effectively collaborate with other teams in the business, in particular the front of house teams.

Guests escaping to the Lakes often have two main motivations… relaxation from busy lives or recovery after fell walking. We’re like no other hotel, we have lots of little quirks, personality and luxury in our rooms – just one of the reasons our housekeeping team enjoy working in this area. This department is the heart of Gilpin and in our eyes, the housekeeping team are the true heroes of our hotel.

THE ROLE OF HOUSEKEEPER
Responsible for ensuring that 5 star standards are kept in the hotel rooms, restaurants laundry and guest areas by ensuring all areas of the hotel are kept clean and tidy.

  • Manning the laundry
  • Washing/drying towels & robes
  • Collection of dirty/clean towel/linen from bedrooms
  • Maintaining the laundry’s cleanliness
  • Sorting & bagging up of laundry
  • Some Housekeeping duties if and when required
  • Clean all areas of the hotel to a high standard

The standard of rooms at the Lake House is extremely high and the interaction with guests is personal, friendly and professional. The Lake House team is therefore required to work to equally high standards, show initiative in serving guests, and also help with small events, guest parties, and weddings.

We’re looking for a talented Chef de Partie to our enthusiastic and talented Gilpin Spice team.

Being a chef at The Gilpin Hotel & Lake House requires varying degrees of skill and bucket loads of enthusiasm. With three very different kitchens on our beautiful sites – we employ staff with a range of culinary skills and qualifications ranging from creative chefs with Michelin Star experience to our much-needed and hard-working kitchen porters. Every staff member is important in helping to create a smooth and incredible dining experience for our guests.

A Chef De Partie

  • Prepares and cooks dishes according to the recipes, guidelines, and instructions within all section of the open kitchen.
  • Executes culinary techniques specific to the assigned section, ensuring that the quality, taste, and presentation of the dishes meet the established standards.
  • Assists in the setup and organisation of the assigned section before service, ensures that all necessary ingredients, equipment, and tools are available and in proper working order.
  • Maintains a clean, tidy, organised and safe working environment at all times.
  • Monitors and maintains the quality and consistency of dishes throughout the cooking process. Tastes and adjusts seasoning as needed. Reports any quality or consistency issues to the senior chefs for resolution.
  • Assists in the management of ingredient inventory for the assigned section, ensures proper stock rotation, storage, and labelling. Notifies the senior chefs of any shortages or discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Works closely with the culinary team, effectively communicates and collaborates to ensure smooth operations and timely service. Assists colleagues as needed and follows instructions from senior chefs.
  • Contributes ideas and suggestions for new dishes, improvements, or adaptations for the assigned section. Collaborates with the senior chefs in menu planning and development.
  • Adheres to strict food safety and hygiene standards, including proper handling, storage, and labelling of ingredients. Ensures cleanliness and sanitation in the assigned section, following all health and safety regulations.
  • Shows a desire to develop and complete any training courses available and encourage others.

  • Oversees food preparation and cooking activities, ensures that dishes are prepared to the highest standards of taste, quality, and presentation. Monitors the cooking process, tastes and adjusts seasonings, and ensures consistency in flavours.

THE ROLE OF BREAKFAST CHEF
As a breakfast chef you’ll run the breakfast operation, you’ll be responsible for ensuring a smooth breakfast service.
  • Setting up the kitchen with cooking utensils and equipment, such as knives, pans and kitchen scales
  • Studying each recipe and gather all necessary ingredients
  • Cooking food in a timely manner and ensuring appealing plate presentation
  • Slightly modifying recipes to meet customers’ needs and requests (e.g. reduce salt, remove dairy)
  • Monitor food stock and place orders
  • Check the freshness of food and discard out-of-date items

THE ROLE OF MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Our established and experienced Estates Team hold the key to ensuring our guests have an extraordinary stay and are an integral part of the Gilpin Hotel & Lake House. You will never be bored with the diverse and varied number of tasks undertaken. We have 36 individually styled bedrooms, 21 acres of grounds, gardens and waterways to maintain and hot tubs a plenty, so if you have a keen eye for perfection, are happy to turn your hand to anything, then our site is a never-ending centre of activity.

A Maintenance Technician

  • Undertakes repairs to hotel and lodge infrastructure such as; door handles, door locks, light fixtures, door trims, decking boards, flooring, shower surrounds etc.
  • Repairs electrical items (not covered under 18th Edition) for instance, changes light bulbs, replaces sockets, changes fuses.
  • Repairs to plumbing jobs such as taps, washers, plugs, plumbing timers, hot tub systems (simple fixes).
  • Constructs and maintains walls, fences, gates, hedges, paths, drives, patios and surfaces.
  • Repairs and maintains the decks around the hot tubs and lodges.
  • Responds to maintenance issues in a timely manner and records actions on the system.
  • Ensures stock levels are appropriate and replenished as necessary.
  • Maintains tools & equipment – ensuring that they are in good condition and reports defects promptly.
  • Escalates maintenance issues to the appropriate person when necessary.
  • Assists with projects and planned work on the estate where required.
  • Takes responsibility for own health and safety and that of others including guests.

The Estates team is a busy, friendly team where attention to detail is hugely important; candidates should have extremely high standards, and be friendly, charming, enthusiastic, well-presented, with good manners, and good English.

The standard of rooms and the grounds at Gilpin is extremely high with a constant refurbishment and maintenance program of bedrooms and public areas. The Estates team is therefore required to work to equally high standards – and are given the time to achieve this.

We’re looking for a Head Sommelier to join the Gilpin Hotel, a 5 star hotel based near Windermere.

We have two beautiful on site restaurants, and to complement our food offerings, we’re looking for passionate individuals who have an interest for mixology, wine and Champagne. There will be a lot of guest contact, so it’s crucial that you love that side of the job too!

You will also work closely with our Executive Head Chef and Restaurant Manager creating suitable wine pairings for our restaurants, to delight our guests by helping them choose the best wine to complement their food.

  • Possesses a professional, welcoming, and warm personality.
  • Works with the chefs to ensure our aperitifs, digestifs and wine is aligned to our food and guest’s tastes.
  • Understands the guest, who they are, their expectations and how to effectively manage their part of the overall service experience to ensure repeat custom.
  • Recommends food and wine pairings – advising guests on wines to suit their personal tastes and food choices.
  • Informs guests about different varieties of wines and prices.
  • Ensures wines are served at the right temperature and within the proper glassware.
  • Serves water, aperitifs, digestifs and wine, and clearing and replacing glassware as required.
  • Manages wine cellar and ensures it’s fully-stocked.
  • Stores open bottles properly to maintain correct tastes.
  • Ensures appropriate supply of clean glassware at all times.
  • Updates waiting staff on available wines.
  • Communicates clearly, professionally, and concisely.
  • Identifies ways to improve sales or control cost.
  • Possesses WSET level 3 or equivalent Sommelier qualifications.
  • Takes pride in building rapport with your team, guests and suppliers.
  • Works effectively as part of a team and individually.
  • Leads, trains and develops a team of Sommeliers and Commis Sommeliers.

Tips: £150 – £230 per month

THE ROLE OF WAITER @ SOURCE
Being a Waiter at The Gilpin Hotel & Lake House requires varying degrees of skill and bucket loads of enthusiasm. With three very different restaurants on our beautiful sites – we employ staff with a range of skills and qualifications. Every staff member is important in helping to create a smooth and incredible dining experience for our guests.

A Waiter

  • Ensures that all our guests receive a 5 star service at all times.
  • Has a pleasant personality and a professional attitude to work.
  • Assists in the preparation for, and the smooth running of a service in SOURCE, being able to understand and fulfil our guests needs.
  • Maintains a high level of cleanliness in the restaurant areas.
  • Assists in the day to day running of the restaurant.
  • Delivers an exceptional service to our guests.
  • Understands Gilpin and what we strive to be.

Skills and Experience Required for the Role,

  • Previous experience in a similar establishment.
  • Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards and the ability to follow them strictly.
  • Understands the importance of allergens and the potential effect that they can have, ensuring that food is safe for customers with food allergies.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to effectively collaborate with the kitchen team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as per the demands of the restaurant.
  • Food hygiene qualification is essential.

We’re always on the lookout for great people to join our team… We don’t currently have any roles available but get in touch if you want to join our Reception or Reservations Teams and we can let you know when a role comes up.

Our team is made up of full and part time positions where the team work a combination of weekdays, evenings and weekends. The department covers Reception, Reservations, Concierge and Night Managers (see below for more details on each position).

All aspects of the role are very guest focused. Training can be provided, so specific experience is not always necessary. Conversely, enthusiasm, attention to detail, excellent English and a love of the hotel industry are a huge advantage!

Candidates should be smart, friendly, charming, enthusiastic, with gracious manners, attention to detail, good communication skills, and fluent English.
